Top Plays
Chris Kirk- $21,800
There is a lot to like with Kirk, starting with his white hot, record setting finish to the Hyundai Tournament of Champions 11-under par showing in Monday’s round. He’s played in four events in this PGA season, three before the start of the new year, and finished 16th or better in each event. His track record in this event is impressive as well. The 29-year old has played in the event four times since turning pro in 2007, making the cut in each trip to Honolulu, and finishing in the top-five the last two years including a runner-up finish last year.
Russell Henley- $19,450
Henley has only been a pro since 2011, and he’s only played in this event twice, but whoa boy. He finished just tied for 51st last year, but in his first time playing at Waialae Country Club he put on a record setting show shooting a 24-under par 256. The Georgian has only played in three events on the young season, but finished in the top-five twice including a third place finish at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. He’ll look to continue his hot start to the year and build on a 2014 PGA Tour season in which he finished in the top-25 in five of the 29 events played including three top-10 finishes, a mark he can tie already this year.
Value Plays
Jason Kokrak- $13,100
Comparing Kokrak’s price to the current betting odds available at Pinnacle Sports reveals what might just be a sneaky value. He’s made the cut in four of five events played this year with a pair of top-20 finishes in his last two events played. Last year he made the cut in 13 of 19 events and finished in the top-25 in 10 events with a pair of top-10 finishes He’s a bomber off the tee ranking tied for 14th in average driving distance last year at 303.4 yards, but he held his own putting as well last year ranking 81st out of 177 golfers in one putt percentage per the PGA Tour’s official website. Kokrak doesn’t have a strong track record at this event, but he has made the cut all three times he’s played in it and had his best finish at Waialae Country Club last year tying for 20th.
Rory Sabbatini- $11,200
If you’re dumpster diving in the bargain bin, Sabbatini is a decent find at a super cheap price. Pinnacle has his odds to win the event at a little better than 100/1 (94.870 to be exact), just a tick worse than the previously touted Kokrak, and better than some higher priced options. Sabbatini missed the cut in his first event played this year, but has made it in his other three cracking the top-25 in two including an 8th place finish back in late October. No statistic at the PGA Tour’s official website stood out as exceptional in his 2014 season, but he did respectable in a number of areas ranking 99th out of 177 in one-putt percentage, 58th in average driving distance, and tied for 74th (coincidentally with Kokrak) in greens in regulation percentage. Sabbatini won’t carry your DFS teams, but he’s a good glue guy that will allow spending more heavily on the studs.
