Five Guys Expert MLB Fantasy Plays
All salaries listed are for DraftDay player pricing.
Michael Wacha $16,900 - I’m not 100% in love with this play, but starting pitcher is rough today and Wacha’s price tag isn’t particularly prohibitive. The Yankees have average numbers across the board against righties, but those totals are certainly inflated by playing half their games in New York’s hitter-friendly confines. I’ll take Wacha’s 26.4% strikeout percentage and let the pieces fall where they may in a pitcher’s park this afternoon.
Adrian Beltre $11,200 - This play is simple math. Twins starter Kevin Correia has allowed right-handed bats to hit .333 off him this season, along with allowing a .372 wOBA against. Since 2011, Beltre has hit .311 with a .381 wOBA and .226 ISO versus right-handers. He’s also on fire, compiling 13 hits in his last seven games.
Tanner Roark $14,700 - The Marlins have been abysmal on the road, and Roark has been overwhelmingly strong in D.C. The young gunner has allowed just three earned runs in 26.2 innings at home, adding 19 strikeouts into the mix. The Fish fan 26% of the time away from Miami, and 23.9% of the time against righties.
Jose Bautista $12,400 - We’ll tempt fate with today’s final two expert MLB fantasy plays. Erik Bedard has been stupendous this season, but myself and every other reputable voice in the industry believes a regression is coming. What better place to start than the Rogers Centre this evening? Joey Bats touts a .292 batting average against lefties since 2011, to along with a hyper-elite .426 wOBA and .303 ISO during that span.
Edwin Encarnacion - $12,800 - Take everything I said about Bautista above, and past it here. Well, except for his stats since 2011. E5 boasts a nearly as compelling .282 batting average, .397 wOBA, and .284 ISO when southpaws are on the bump.
