Thursday evening, CrazyGabey and I hosted a live DraftDay fantasy football mock draft, featuring 10 experts from all around the industry. It was one hell of a time, and truly a treat to watch as these experts battled it out in the fantasy trenches for 20 hard-fought best ball rounds.
The speculation about the first overall pick was the primary topic to start. Would it be PPR monster LeSean McCoy? Would it be the focal point of the Chiefs attack, Jamaal Charles? The answer was neither, as Peyton Manning went off the board first to Loughy_D. Many were surprised to see that Charles fell to ProjectRoto with the fourth overall pick, the third running back off the board after LeSean McCoy and Matt Forte.
Calvin Johnson was the first wide receiver off the board at 6th overall to FantasyNomad, and Demariyus Thomas was quickly taken next at 7th. No surprise at tight end, as Jimmy Graham was taken first at 8th overall by MikeSGallagher. Rob Gronkowski didn’t last much longer, going 14th overall to ProjectRoto as well.
Remarkably, a love/hate type of player for this upcoming season, Arian Foster dropped to 27th overall to naapstermaan. Bishop Sankey was a pick that the experts were a big fan of at 50th overall to FFRittle. Jordan Cameron was another great pick at 72nd overall to 2GuysBrandon.
RotoHobo scooped up one of CrazyGabey’s favorite players, Andre Ellington in the fourth round. That’s a steal for PPR best ball formats BChad50, our very own Josh Shepardson, was able to secured Joique Bell in the 6th round, and from the sound of it CrazyGabey really loved the pick. spidr2ybanana grabbed Eric Decker in the 7th, showing just how low this perennial top-10 wideout is presumed to have fallen in the Jets anemic offense.
The QB domino effect began in the 9th round, as Nick Foles was picked up by ProjectRoto. Matt Ryan was next, going to MichaelSGallagher, before Cam Newton was taken by 2GuysBrandon just four picks later, early in the 10th round.
No surprise here, as the Seahawks D/ST was the first one taken off the board, lasting all the way until the 10th round before finally going to ProjectRoto. The remaining top defenses were quickly swooped up as well, as the Panthers went just two picks later to Loughy_D. The Chiefs were picked up in the 11th round by FantasyNomad.
All in all, it was certainly a great time. The live DraftDay fantasy football mock draft is a great learning experience for all viewers. Feel free to shout out to any of these guys on Twitter with your NFL fantasy football questions in the upcoming weeks!
