Fantasy Hockey Picks 10-24-14
These fantasy hockey picks will help you dominate your competition on the ice!
Goalies:
Semyon Varlamov ($19,900) - The Canucks are coming off of a hard fought battle with the Blues last night and have to travel. Varlamov is coming off an injury but reports indicate that he is 100% healthy. Vancouver should get plenty of shots on net as Colorado is one of the worst teams in the league at controlling the puck. Vegas has Colorado pegged as favorites in this one. Varlamov may see 35 shots in this game and if he gets a win, his upside is huge.
Ben Scrivens ($13,550) - At the beginning of the year I would have laid even money that I would not roster a EDM goalie all season. This Hurricanes team is in shambles right now and got embarrassed last night in Calgary. The Canes only managed to put 16 shots on goal last night, which is truly pathetic. Scrivens should be a safe bet for the win and possibly another shutout. This price makes him a great play.
Centers:
Jason Spezza ($13,300) - Spezza has joined the top line with Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn. This might be the best skating line in the league for fantasy purposes. The matchup is not great anytime you are playing NJ but the fantasy output from this skating line is tremendous. As far as I am concerned this Spezza line is matchup proof.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins ($10,250) - Any time you get to face Carolina you had better look at forwards from their opponent. With RNH being the cheapest option for the top line, that is a great way to get exposure to the other studs. When they score he is likely to be in on it with an assist. All of his ice time comes with the benefit of skating with Taylor Hall.
Others: Ryan Kesler , Matt Duchene
Left Wing:
Taylor Hall ($14,650) - Hall is my favorite player of the night. He is the best scorer for EDM, and they have the best matchup of the night. I will be stacking the entire line of Hall, RNH and Eberle in a GPP or two and not thinking twice about it. If Calgary can score 5 goals against Carolina, I wouldn’t be surprised if EDM tops that.
Jonathan Drouin ($10,200) - Drouin is one of the biggest prospects in the game. I can not say that I have seen him play an entire game, but scouts love this kid. He is going to skate on the top line and top power play with Stamkos so you can’t argue with the potential.
Others: Gabreil Landeskog, Jakob Silfverberg
Right Wing:
Corey Perry ($16,150) - Perry already has two hat tricks this season. His ceiling is one of the highest in the league. The Blue Jackets played a very close game last night, scoring with just 20.7 seconds left to pull ahead in a 5-4 game. The game was very fast paced and some guys may show up with heavy legs tonight. If this is the case, Perry will skate circles around them and likely find the back of the net.
Devante Smith-Pelly ($7,750) - Has the honor of skating with Getzalf and Perry. That is one of the best positions you can have for a value play. Unfortunately he does not skate with the first power play unit, but he will still give you exposure to the two studs for half the price.
Others: Jaromir Jagr, David Perron
Defense:
Anton Stralman ($5,450) - Usually I list my value priced player second but I am too excited to play Stralman yet again. This price makes him an auto play for me and can’t find a reason not to play him tonight. With Hedman still hurt, Stralman gets the power play time with the explosive unit.
Damon Severson ($5,750) - I have no idea how this price is still so low. This kid is showing up night in and night out. One of the more consistent defensemen at any price. Another no brainer.
Others: Sami Vatanen, Dustin Byfuglien
