Fantasy Hockey Picks 10-14-14
After two short slates it’s time to get back at it with our fantasy hockey picks.
Goalies
Henrik Lundqvist $21,150 - This is where I’m going if I decide to spend up tonight. Lundqvist is one of the best goalies in the league. He is one of the safest bets on the board to get the win as the Rangers should score plenty of goals.
Cam Ward $11,450 - This is your de facto Buffalo Sabres play. Buffalo just can’t score. Ward is not a great GPP play unless he earns the shutout because Buffalo’s terrible team fails to register many shots on goal. You’re paying for the win and not much more if he gives up a goal.
Centers
Anze Kopitar $13,800 - He will be looking to redeem himself and his team at the Staples Center tonight. The matchup with EDM is a great way to get a team on track. The defending champs should come out hungry in this game and their former teammate in net. They should have faced him in practice two years ago when Scrivens was the backup goalie in LA. This should give the skaters the advantage in the game (as if they needed one vs EDM’s blueline).
Mike Ribeiro $8,300 - Ribeiro is one of the more underrated playmakers in the league. He creates great scoring chances for his teammates and this is one of the few nights I will be playing some Predators. With James Neal on his skating line Ribeiro finally has a legit sniper to finish the chances.
Additional Plays: Joe Thornton and Derick Brassard
Left Wings
Rick Nash $13,350 - Not sure why he is listed at left wing but take advantage. The Rangers should see plenty of scoring chances and I like Nash to lead the charge. With four goals through three games it is safe to say he is on fire.
(Nash left Sunday’s game for the birth of his child. He is expected to be back with the team tonight.)
Matthew Nieto $7,850 - Benefits greatly from skating with Logan Couture and Patrick Marleau. The Sharks should light the lamp plenty vs Brandon Holtby. Even with the expensive offseason the Washington Capitals had improving their blue line play it’s not enough to stop the Sharks tonight.
Additional Plays: James van Reimsdyk and Jiri Tilusty
Right Wings
Martin St. Louis $12,400 - I did not want to list him here as I already talked about Rick Nash but the position is not deep and I like the Rangers a lot tonight. I don’t mind playing both on the same team as they should often get the assists on each other’s goals. Great pairing for large tournaments.
Marian Gaborik $10,700 - Gaborik is another player I did not want to mention but every lineup I am making seems to play him. Right wing is slim pickings tonight and LA should score plenty. Gaborik is a pure goal scorer and there’s no reason he shouldn’t be involved.
Additional Plays: Alexander Semin and Alex Tanguay
Defensemen
Marek Zidlicky $10,050 - Tampa is on a back to back and They should be tired. The game was extremely fast-paced last night with a plethora of scoring chances. Marek has three assists in two games and is one of the most consistent contributors on the Devils.
Brent burns $8,850 - This price just isn’t fair. I will be playing him on almost all of my teams. Take advantage of the depressed salary while you can.
Additional Plays: Roman Josi and Brayden Mcnabb
