Daily Fantasy Baseball Top Picks
Last night was a mixed bag of daily fantasy baseball emotions.
Rickie Weeks ruined my days.
On one hand my pitcher and value pick of the night flamed out, but on the other side my remaining selections were able to carry the load to a stalemate in my head-to-head contests. R.A. Dickey turned in a solid showing against a Rangers team whose struggles are beginning to become a trend. I’m not sure if this signals a return to form for the knuckleballer or a product of weak offense. I suppose the jury will have to hold out until at least his next start. I could have easily approached 50 fantasy points had Rickie Weeks actually played (and with his career splits against Homer Bailey I’m surprised he didn’t) and Anibal Sanchez not completely fallen apart. Nothing too nefarious to dwell upon here though. With an eye towards today and a host of excellent daily fantasy baseball options to choose from, let’s move along.
Try and take me out with your best daily fantasy baseball roster in one of the $1 +.10 Head to Head games I’m sitting in. I’m also geared up for some exhilarating large field daily fantasy baseball tourney action in the $5 +.50 Throwdown. Don’t forget to join the MLB Freeroll either, it’s free money! I’ll be on Twitter as the action unfolds so shoot me a tweet and talk some smack!
Daily Fantasy Baseball Weather Alert
Milwaukee @ Cincinatti - 50% chance throughout this one.
Chicago Cubs @ Ney York Mets - 50% chance all day.
San Francisco @ Atlanta - Slight chance of rain.
Washington @ Cleveland - Rain expected early but should clear up after too long.
Pitcher
Hisashi Iwakuma - $13900 - In two wins against Oakland this year has 16 strikeouts over 13 innings.
Hector Santiago - $5800 - 52 strikeouts in 52 innings this season. Houston is trigger happy on the Ks.
After switching Holliday out we’re happy to snag Bruce and Revere.
Catcher
Matt Weiters - $6700 - Hits lefties well. 13 for 34 career against the struggling Jon Lester.
Salvador Perez $6200 - Moved up to third in the batting order and is really hitting his groove.
First Base
Prince Fielder - $7400 - Been hitting well but just not out of the park. 5 for 11 against Walters.
Paul Goldschmidt - $9400 - Crushes left-handed pitching and 5 for 11 career with two doubles against Clayton Richard.
Second Base
Ben Zobrist - $7200 - Hits for more power against righties, Wade Davis has been brutal, and hitting well the past week.
Howie Kendrick - $6500 - AL-best 24 for 48 in June. 9 for 19 off Sabathia.
Third Base
Martin Prado - $5000 - Cheap and hits lefties far better. Clayton Richard has been awful.
Michael Young - $4500 - Solid value play that has posted consistent number over the past week.
Shortstop
Ian Desmond - $6800 - Red hot in the past three weeks hitting safely in 16 of 17 games.
Yunel Escobar - $6700 - 8 for 21 against Wade Davis.
Outfield
Matt Holliday - $7700 - 11 for 24 with two homers and three doubles against Nolasco.
*Holliday is not in today’s lineup. Unless you hear something further you’ll need to explore other options.
Giancarlo Stanton - $7200 - Mashing since his return from the disabled list. Get him on a discount while you still can.
Alex Gordon - $5900 - 15 for 31 against Roberto Hernandez.
Cody Ross - $4700 - Hits lefties well. 5 for 8 off Clayton Richard and should be hitting in the middle of the order.
Ben Revere - $5200 - Playing excellent the past two weeks and still on a bargain price tag in what should be another high scoring affair at Coors Field.
Jay Bruce - $8500 - Wily Peralta is bad and Bruce has caught fire. He’s hitting .329 versus lefties this season.
With so many high end, fringe pitching options today I decided to go with the consistent dominance of Iwakuma mixed with the variant risk/reward aspect of an option like Hector Santiago. It affords you wiggle room with your hitters at nearly one third the price of a stud pitcher. I’m definitely stacking the Diamondbacks in at least one large field tournament today. Clayton Richard is due for another shellacking.
