Fantasy Football Injury Report - Week 9
Take a look at this up-to-date fantasy football injury report and take advantage of some backup players who will start in week 9!
It has been a tumultuous NFL season to this point, with star players dropping like flies each week. Listen, I know you’re busy and can’t keep up with every single piece of information that comes out regarding an injury. That’s where I come in. I’ll break down the latest injury news for each game so that you won’t have to build your lineups in fear of the dreaded “Q” designation. Let’s kick things off with the 1 P.M. Eastern Games:
Buccaneers at Browns
DOUBTFUL: Doug Martin (ankle) - Martin seems very unlikely to play, meaning Bobby Rainey would draw the start. Charles Sims should see some playing time as well, but it is difficult to pinpoint his role in the offense.
OUT: Jordan Cameron (concussion) - Cameron is out this week, and also unlikely to play on Thursday night. Gary Barnidge and Jim Dray sit behind Cameron on the depth chart, but hold little value.
Jaguars at Bengals
PROBABLE: A.J. Green (toe) - Green looks ready to go for today’s game against the Jaguars. It will be interesting to see how many snaps he plays as the Bengals ease him back in during a game that Vegas has pegged as a blowout.
OUT: Giovani Bernard (hip) - Bernard injured his hip in practice and is inactive today. Play Jeremy Hill with confidence against a weak Jaguars defense. He should see a big volume of carries.
Cardinals at Cowboys
OUT: Tony Romo (back) - Romo tried to tough it out, but with multiple fractures in his back, he will sit this one out. Brandon Weeden steps in against a very exploitable Cardinals defense. He makes for a cheap tournament only play in my book.
OUT: Stephan Taylor (calf) - Taylor was the goal-line back for Arizona and a thorn in the side for Andre Ellington rosters. With Taylor out, Ellington’s value jumps even higher. He makes for a great RB play today.
Jets at Chiefs
QUESTIONABLE: Geno Smith (shoulder) - Geno will likely be available to play, but Michael Vick will continue to start. Smith won’t likely see the field unless Vick leaves with an injury.
PROBABLE: Eric Berry (ankle) - Will return this week as the Chiefs look to wreak havoc on an erratic Jets offense.
Redskins at Vikings
Robert Griffin III will start after an extended absence. He is worth a flier in GPPs only for me.
OUT: Kyle Rudolph (hernia) - Rudolph will continue to sit out following surgery.
Chargers at Dolphins
OUT: Ryan Mathews (knee) - Many were optimistic that Mathews would make his return this week, but the Chargers have decided to hold him out once again.
PROBABLE: Donald Brown (concussion) - Brown will be back in action this week, but will serve as the backup to Branden Oliver. Brown carries little value (no pun intended), barely averaging 2 YPC.
4 P.M. Eastern Games
Raiders at Seahawks
OUT: Zach Miller (ankle) - Luke Wilson has made some big plays in Miller’s absence, and will continue to be the starter. He is a deep tournament option only due to lack of volume.
Sunday Night Football
Ravens at Steelers
OUT: Jimmy Smith (foot) - This injury may be the most significant one on the week. The Steelers are coming off of a historically good offensive performance last week against Indianapolis. Smith’s absence gives a boost to Antonio Brown, Markus Wheaton, and even Martavis Bryant.
Monday Night Football
Colts at Giants
PROBABLE: Reggie Wayne (elbow) - Wayne looks to be a go for Monday, and should assume his role as the #2 WR for Andrew Luck once again.
OUT: Rashad Jennings (knee) - Jennings will sit out once again, and Andre Williams will continue to be the lead back. The Colts defense has struggled against the run, but Williams has been less than impressive. He is a tournament option for me.
