Top PGA Picks - 2014 Tour Championship
The Tour Championship is finally here for our top PGA picks.
Rory Mcllroy, $21,700
Tough to pass on the best golfer in the world in any given event. With that said, the value this week to fit in his salary will be extremely tough to find. I will be tinkering as long as it takes to get him on my roster.
Hideki Matsuyama, $16,300
Matsuyama has been extremely consistent the last few months. He makes a very solid cash game play and should post a solid outing. I wouldn’t expect a top-five finish, but a top-10 is not out of the question. At this reduced salary, it’s a play I will be using quite often at DraftDay.
Martin Kaymer, $16,300
Kaymer has big upside with a depressed salary this week. He’s not playing the best golf of his career recently, but has shown the skills it takes to win a tournament. This is a guy who has been there before and will not fold under the pressure in the final round. That is a great attribute to have, and you can’t say the same for everyone on the tour.
Ryan Palmer, $15,700
He is playing very well right now and coming into this event with huge confidence. This is a direction you will need to go if you want to fit Rory into the salary cap. With a much smaller field there just aren’t the value options available like most weeks.
Jordan Spieth, $18,500
Spieth is a go to play of mine. The talent is most certainly there with this twenty-one year old. He’s one of the most consistent golfers on tour, and always seems to be underowned in the large tournaments.
Jim Furyk, $19,100
Furyk is my second favorite play regardless of price this week. While he is the fifth most expensive player, I will be taking full advantage of the seemingly inflated salary. He has been on fire since May with seven top-10 finishes.
Closing Thoughts
This is a week where I will be trying to take all players around the average price because the field is so strong. Rory is the exception if you can make it work. With the field being so tough it is nearly impossible to predict a win from anyone but Rory. This leads me to believe that a more conservative and consistent approach is the way to play it this week.
