Fantasy Hockey Picks 2-5-15
These fantasy hockey picks are the perfect combination to help you cash in BIG tonight!
We have a great 9 game slate tonight with only one huge favorite on the board. This means there should be plenty of unique players in GPPs and the percentage owned will be very low. This is how DFS was meant to be played with no obvious picks every night and I can’t wait to see these rosters.
Goalies:
Brian Elliot ($20,550)/Jake Allen ($16,150) - Neither goalie is confirmed yet and whomever it is will easily be the safest option for a win tonight. I hope that it is Allen for the savings but either way is a very safe option. Buffalo finally won a game in a shocker Tuesday in Montreal. Buffalo is still the lowest scoring team in the league by a wide margin scoring just 1.78 goals a game.
Petr Mrazek ($16,300) - Detroit is well rested having played their last game on January 31st. This should help their hot streak being 8-2 in their last 10 games. The savings here really puts him in play for me as I think they roll into Denver and come away with the win.
Centers:
Paul Stastny ($8,650) - Stastny has been centering a line with Schwartz and Tarasenko on it due to the Lehtera injury. Stastny is an underrated player in my opinion and excited for him to get the chance at top 6 minutes in STL. He is not on the power play with his line mates so taking two of them will get you exposure to both power play units and a good way to balance out your lineup.
Eric Staal ($11,800) - Carolina is starting to put some wins together and the Staal brothers are the main reason why. They are playing great two way hockey right now and have a great matchup tonight against Mike Smith and the struggling Coyotes. Eric Staal is the first forward I look at when rostering Carolina as he is the most consistent. It is hard to load up on them as they don’t light up the scoreboard very often but having some exposure tonight is not a bad idea.
Others: Pavel Datsyuk, Tyler Johnson
Left Wing:
Daniel Sedin ($11,550) - Daniel has 3 points in the 3 games since the break and now draws a home matchup against a Sharks team coming off of a 3-1 loss in Calgary last night. Neither goalie for San Jose has been playing great right now and anytime the Sedins are on home ice and get the matchups they want they are in play for me. I expect Niemi to be in net as Stalock was last night.
Josh Bailey ($8,600) - Bailey is skating with John Tavares on even strength due to the injury to Okposo. Although he is not on the power play unit with Tavares he can still reach value. Steve Mason is capable of blowing up any game despite his good results recently.
Others: Brayden Schenn, Jaden Schwartz
Right Wing:
Justin Abdelkader ($8,750) - Varlamov has been outstanding as of late but I think it has to end at some point. Colorado’s opponents have been controlling the puck for most of the game and able to put a very high amount of shots on net night in and night out. Abdelkader provides the most value from Detroit’s top line and top power play unit and I think they find a way to score a few tonight.
Patrick Eaves ($7,900) - Although Ben Bishop has been great recently, Eaves still provides great value. Skating with Benn and Seguin provides great opportunities and often have the puck deep in the zone. Eaves has 3 goals and an assist in his last 4 games. Dallas may have finally found the mainstay on that top line that has been changing all year long.
Others: Shane Doan, T.J Oshie
Defense:
Alex Pietrangelo ($11,200) - The injury to Shattenkirk has opened the door for Pietrangelo to be the point man on the top power play unit for STL. This is huge for fantasy production as the Sabres will certainly take some penalties trying to slow down the Blues tonight. My favorite defenseman on the night.
Ryan Murphy ($8,150) - Getting the power play time against the Coyotes penalty kill seems to come up in every article these days but for good reason. They rank 27th in the league allowing a goal 23.1% of power plays. Murphy’s price is too low to ignore in this spot.
Others: Mike Green, Anton Stralman
