Fantasy Hockey Picks 2-21-15
Our fantasy hockey picks highlight the plays you NEED to cash in tonight!
We have a great 9 game slate tonight for hockey night in Canada and a Stadium Series game which will be very entertaining between the Sharks and Kings who both desperately need every point they can get to make the post season. This is the only late game tonight so all eyes will be on it for fantasy purposes.
Goalies:
Carey Price ($23,700) - Price is the most expensive goalie tonight for good reason. He is by far the safest option tonight when the Habs host the Blue Jackets. Montreal is 20-7-4 at home this season and looking to keep their lead in the standings. With McElhinney in net for Columbus, the Canadians should be able to provide enough goal support even if Price lets in a goal or two.
Others: Michael Hutchinson, Anton Khudobin
Centers:
Ryan Getzalf ($13,100) - The depressed price is too good to pass up today. Hopefully he will be reunited to skate with Corey Perry as the two are great together but Getzalf tallied a goal and an assist last night despite skating on different lines.
Pavel Datsyuk ($12,150) - The Dallas Stars are very injured right now and have skaters in their top two lines that really shouldn’t be there. Datsyuk has the experience and type of game to exploit any mistakes from the opposition. Datsyuk has been centering the “second line” for Detroit that has been out preforming the top line. Go with the hot hand on the team that is under priced against an injury depleted Stars team.
Others: Evgeni Malkin, Jordan Staal
Left Wing:
Max Pacioretty ($15,550) - Very pricey but well worth it tonight. The Jackets struggle defensively when they aren’t at home and get to match Brandon Dubinsky against the opposing top line. Montreal is by far the biggest favorite on the day and should score 3-4 goals tonight. Anytime you are looking at forwards from Montreal, Pacioretty is the first place to start.
Ondrej Palat ($10,050) - Palat has 4 points in his last 3 games and his line for Tampa is playing very well right now. The matchup is great at Arizona and I expect the Stamkos line to draw the attention of the top defensive pair in Arizona. This should help create scoring chances for this second line for tampa and I am going to roster them heavily tonight.
Others: Patrick Marleau, Jonathan Huberdeau
Right Wing:
Tyler Toffoli ($12,200) - Anttie Niemi has allowed at least 2 goals in 6 straight games and I don’t see that streak coming to an end tonight. Toffoli has been producing night in and night out. The price is rising and the only thing holding him back is the amount of ice time. When he gets as many shifts as the superstars he has been outproducing them at even strength. When skating with Jeff Carter this season his numbers per 60 minutes are off the charts.
Blake Wheeler ($12,550) - With Toronto on the second game of a back to back and the ridiculous losing streak they have been on going 1-8-1 in the last ten games, the Jets should come into this game tonight and dominate. The Little/Ladd/Wheeler line is always capable of putting up multiple points any given night and with the tired legs on Toronto I see them having a big game.
Others: Nikita Kucherov, Brenddan Gallagher
Defense:
Morgan Rielly ($8,600) - Taken over the point on the teams top power play unit against the Jets who take the most penalties in the league should present Rielly with plenty of opportunities on the power play.
Cam Fowler ($6,800) - Again we have a defensemen that is getting the ice time on the top power play unit and is at a fraction of the cost that most defensemen in this situation cost. Against EDM taking defensemen that get over 20 minutes of ice time is always a strategy that is in play and the power play time is just bonus.
Others: Anton Stralman, Aaron Ekblad
