Fantasy Hockey Picks 11-7-14
Gain an edge over the competition in tonight’s slate with some great value plays in these fantasy hockey picks!
Goalies:
Cam Ward ($14,750) - As much as I hate to admit it, the Blue Jackets do not have a roster that can compete in the NHL right now. They have 7 players on injured reserve that were expected to play every night this season. A hurdle like this is tough to overcome for a team that wins by out-working opponents and having more depth. Ward played a great game when these two teams met on Tuesday as the Canes dominated the game for 50 minutes. I wouldn’t be shocked to see them do it again on their home ice.
Viktor Fasth ($11,500) - I hope he is in net tonight, because any goalie at this price is tough to avoid against Buffalo. While EDM aren’t world beaters themselves, they should still score a few against Buffalo and that should result in a win for Fasth. Look at whoever is playing Buffalo for your cash games as they are almost always in play.
Centers:
Eric Staal ($12,400) - Staal had multiple scoring chances vs this very team on Tuesday. I believe he was a little too unselfish with the puck, looking to set up his line-mates for scores. I think he will continue to be more assertive as the season goes on, and looking for his scoring. A matchup tonight against the backup goalie for Columbus is a good place to start.
Pavel Datsyuk ($8,650) - I really hope they fix this price soon, as he is an auto-play every night for me right now. I still consider Datsyuk to be a top 10 player in the league and nobody can argue that he is a top 20 player. This price reflects the price of a 3rd line skater getting 13 minutes a game and no power play time. Take advantage of the price slip up for as long as you can.
Left Wing:
Benoit Pouliot ($6,000) - Pouliot is skating on the top line in place of Taylor Hall. Anyone this cheap on the top line and top power play vs Buffalo deserves strong consideration. The LW position is littered with injuries today so I will be utilizing two value play options and recommend spending elsewhere.
Patrick Maroon ($5,300) - Even if Corey Perry (flu) does not play tonight, Maroon still is a great value option. He will still get all of his ice time with Getzalf and the top power play unit and this price is just too good to pass on at this position tonight.
Right Wing:
Patrick Kane ($12,850) - Chicago is going to get it going offensively at some point this season and I’m going to be on them when it happens. Kane is going to skate with his buddy Toews and that makes for a deadly combo for opposing teams. I’m all over the Hawks top line tonight.
Ben Smith ($5,000) - Skating on a line with Johnathan Toews and Patrick Kane is a place you want to be for fantasy. The scoring chances here will be endless, and at bare minimum price you would be a fool to not play Smith tonight.
Defense:
Justin Schultz ($9,350) - Schultz gets all of the power play time and gets a matchup with Buffalo. That is never something to shy away from. Buffalo’s lack of experience leads to them spending extra time a man down. The price won’t break the bank and makes Schultz a great play.
Sami Vatenen ($7,800) - Still comes in at a great discount for some reason. Logging over 20 minutes of ice time per game and getting all of the power play time is all you can ask for from a value defenseman. Mike Smith should be in net for the Coyotes who has blown up on multiple occasions this season and this could be another.
