Fantasy Hockey Picks 10-30-14
These fantasy hockey picks will help guide your team to victory tonight!
With NBA in full swing many people, will be focused on that and the chance for overlay is real in the NHL GPPs. I am not one to pass up free money and suggest you don’t either.
Goalies:
Cory Schneider ($19,650) - Gets a juicy matchup at home vs the Jets. Schneider has not been great to start this season, allowing 3 goals per game. However, I think he turns it around big time tonight. With the Winnipeg offense being ranked 27th in the league in scoring, I think this is the night that Schneider gets his first shutout of the season.
Antti Raanta ($18,000) - Should be a safe play for the win and also see a lot of shots tonight. Ottawa likes to play a very fast paced game and test the opposing goalie anytime they can. If Raanta can secure the puck and not allow a goal or two off of a rebound he will be in line for a nice night. The price difference is not enough to take me off Schneider for my cash games though.
Centers:
Andrew Shaw ($6,750) - Is centering a line of Patrick Kane and Patrick Sharp. This is a center’s dream and the matchup is ideal. Shaw also gets time on the top power play unit, and this price is just too good to pass up. His price will help open the door for you to fit the studs you want in your lineup.
Seth Griffith ($5,000) - Appears to be stepping up for the injury depleted Boston roster. Griffith remains minimum price for some reason, even though he is skating on the teams top line and top power play line. The matchup with Buffalo could not be any better and the price is as good as it gets. I don’t see how you can roster another center other than these two bargain plays.
Others: Steven Stamkos, David Krecji
Left Wing:
Joe Pavelski ($14,650) - The Sharks have tried to create 1 “super line”, pairing Pavelski with Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau. While the matchup is far from ideal, this Sharks line may be matchup proof. I try to avoid taking players at Minnesota but with all the extra salary from the value centers I have to consider Pavelski.
Alex Killorn ($5,550) - Is going to be skating with Stamkos on even strength and the top power play. As far as value plays go, there are not many better situations than this. Backup goalie Ray Emery is expected to be in net for the Flyer,s which also bumps up the value of all the Tampa forwards.
Others: Patrick Sharp, Mikkel Boedker
Right Wing:
Kyle Okposo ($13,900) - This should be one of the higher scoring games of the night and Okposo should be right in the middle of it. Colorado has trouble controlling the puck, and that is a recipe for disaster against the Tavares/Okposo duo.
Jeff Carter ($13,050) - With the injury to Anze Kpoitar, there will be even more pressure on Carter to score. He is already off to a blistering start and this will only give him more ice time. Both teams are going to treat this game as a statement game, and Carter thrives in these spots. Pittsburgh’s goalie situation is capable of blowing up at any point and if there is 1 player on the Kings that can put a couple in the back of the net, it is Carter.
Others: Nathan MacKinnon, Patrick Kane
Defense:
Duncan Keith ($12,900) - Keith is my top overall play of the night. With all of the value tonight I don’t mind spending for defensemen. I see Chicago scoring 4 goals tonight and Keith being a big part of it. Craig Anderson has a history of not being able to hold on to pucks and gives up plenty of rebounds. Kieth has a big shot from the point that should lead to rebounds and his teammates finding the back of the net, leading to assists for the defenseman.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson ($12,400) - Is producing night in and night out. He seems to really be looking for his shot which is a quality many defenseman don’t have. FLA seems to find themselves at a man disadvantage quite often, and that is when Ekman-Larson excels.
Others: Dougie Hamilton, Damon Severson/Anton Stralman (prices still broken on these two)
