Fantasy Hockey Picks 10-17-14
Our fantasy hockey picks feature a homer goalie.
Goalies
Sergei Bobrovsky $20,800 - He is the safest play for the win tonight. The Blue Jackets are a different team at home the past couple of seasons and he is a huge reason why. Vegas also has Bobrovsky listed as having the best chance for those ever so crucial points for the win.
Ryan Miller $18,800 - Edmonton has just looked awful in the early parts of this season. I believe they will get Jordan Eberle back tonight but they are still without their top line center in Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. When a top line center is out it affects the entire team and often throws the game plan out of whack. Miller was phenomenal with Buffalo in the early parts of last season before he was traded. The talent is there for sure and the mathcup doesn’t hurt. I usually prefer my goalies to be at home but I will make an exception here.
Additional Plays: Federik Andersen
Centers
Henrik Sedin $13,150 - The boards in Edmonton play extremely fast for some reason and I can’t think of anyone better to benefit from this than Henrik. He is the best I have ever seen at passing off the boards and hitting his man in stride (mainly his twin). I can see the Cannucks putting up big numbers tonight and Henrik should be in the middle of it all.
Tyler Bozak $9,250 - He has accumulated 5 points in just 4 games. The price is rising but not fast enough for what he is doing. He is usually the set up man for the two studs he skates with but it seems like the defense has figured this out as well and are more focused on JVR and Kessel. This has opened things up greatly for Bozak.
Additional Plays: Artem Anisimov, Henrik Zetterberg
Left Wings
Zach Parise $15,000 - Parise is playing like he is possessed right now. 2 goals and 2 assists in 2 games along with 19 shots on goal. Not the best of matchups but if he is shooting at this rate he doesn’t even need to score to help your team. Parise never takes a shift off and can punish any mistake from the other team.
Nick Foligno $6,350 - This price is just too good. I want some exposure from the Blue Jackets as they are the biggest favorite of the night but it is so hard to pick where the scoring comes from on this team. Foligno has racked up 4 points in 3 games and comes dirt cheap. All of his ice time comes with the benefit of skating with Ryan Johansen who is creating scoring chances every shift.
Additional Plays: Daniel Sedin, Johnathan Huburdeau
Right Wings
Corey Perry $15,750 - Perry is in a class with Stamkos, Crosby, and Ovechkin in terms of being matchup proof. Anytime you can roster Perry I ain’t mad at ya. A plug and play when you can make the salary work.
Drew Stafford $6,450 - I thought I would go all year without playing anyone on Buffalo but if there is ever a time it is at home vs the Panthers. Stafford gets plenty of ice time on the teams top line and top power play. This price and those opportunities do not come hand in hand often. Take advantage the one time you can Sabre fans.
Additional Plays: James Neal, Gustav Nyquist
Defensemen
Jack Johnson $9,350 - The stats for the game on Tuesday vs the Stars are very misleading. Johnson tallied 2 assists but played one of the worst defensive games I have ever seen him play in a CBJ sweater. Jack should come out on fire after that performance and should have plenty of chances on the offensive end tonight.
Chris Tanev $7,250 - Practiced with the top power play unit yesterday. Vancouver should see plenty of power plays as EDM will struggle to keep them in check. Tanev is a great skater and his footwork is amazing. He never seems to not have his feet squared to the net ready to shoot. Playing with the Sedin’s you need to always be ready. The shots will be there.
Additonal Plays: Roman Josi, Brian Campbell
doug - is this really analysis? Jeez. No statistical support. “Any time you can plug and play I ain’t mad at you.” Very insightful.

FSL - Please don’t delete this comment again. This may have taken 10 minutes to write. There is no substance, let alone statistical analysis. “I ain’t mad at ya.” That’s analysis?

We didn’t delete your comment the first time. If I had to guess, the author was most likely injecting a little humor into his article with that quote.
