Fantasy Hockey Picks 10-16-14
You’ll need to trust your instincts with tonight’s fantasy hockey picks.
Goalies
Annti Niemi $19,050 - There is not one goalie that stands head and shoulders above the rest tonight but Niemi is my top choice. While the Islanders have looked great offensively to start the season lets keep in mind that they beat up on Carolina two times and a struggling NYR team that has looked pitiful outside of Rick Nash. The Sharks team is really clicking right now as they seem to every season to in the first month.
Cam Ward $11,850 - He is yet again going to be my value play tournament option. I just mentioned how bad NYR is playing and this price is just too cheap for a goalie that is starting. The Rangers are missing Derek Stepan who plays a huge role for that team offensively. I would not be suprised if they continue to struggle and Ward picks up the Win at this bargain basement price.
Centers
Joe Pavelski $14,150 - Pavelski is always in the middle of the Sharks scoring. A matchup against a terrible defensive team in NYI is more than enough to continue to roster Sharks every night. They score with the best of them and it is often hard to predict who it will be, but Pavelski is usually the best option to take. He gets plenty of ice time with the other top scoring options and is always in a position to score.
Travis Zajac $7,450 - Centering the top line with Cammalleri and Jagr is a great spot for this value play. Cammalleri is on fire and we all know what Jagr can do. It is only a matter of time until Zajac gets in on the scoring and he has a good matchup tonight.
Additional Plays: Brandon Sutter, Matt Duchene
Left Wings
Chris Kunitz $13,900 - You want to play Sidney Crosby but can’t afford him? You’re in luck. Just play Kunitz. He is always on the ice with Sid the Kid and benefits almost everytime he scores with an assist. Kunitz is often the recipient of Crosby’s play making abilities and finishes the scoring chances that Crosby sets up. Not enough? Kunitz also plays the the top power play line with Crosby, Malkin, and Letang. If that doesn’t sell you on this guy I’m not sure what will.
Matthew Nieto $7,900 - Nieto seems to find his way on my team every night. The price is still too low for a player in the top two skating lines for San Jose right now. He gives you exposure to Marleau and Couture who are both studs. Nieto has a point in all 3 games already this season and the matchup tonight should not stop the streak.
Right Wings
Rick Nash $13,300 - This guy is on fire. The rest of the team in New York is playing awful but Nash is still producing. Nash has never been able to make the players around him better but I don’t care for fantasy. He finds the back of the net or dies trying. Get him in.
Nathan Mackinnon $13,350 - Ottawa likes to play a very fast paced up and down game. Mackinnon is the fastest skater in the league I believe. If not he is top 3 for sure. Any turnover and this guy is gone on a breakaway. Ottawa’s blue line is well below average and mistake prone. I think there will be plenty of scoring chances tonight as he should be able to skate circles around them.
Additional Plays: Jaromir Jagr, Brendan Gallager
Defensemen
Brent Burns $8,800 - The price is climbing slowly but surely. There are 20 more expensive Dmen tonight. That right there tells you something is wrong. Play him every night until this is corrected.
Nick Holden $7,500 - Holden is getting well over 20 minutes of ice time per game and this game should be no different. A defenseman on the top power play and top defensive pairing at this price is a bargain. These two teams should see plenty of shots from the point with the wide open, fast paced game it projects to be.
Additional Plays: Justin Faulk, Johnny Boychuck (blocked shots machine and SJ should have plenty of shots)
Niemi is likely to get the day off and Stalock should get the start. I like Stalock aswell but Lundqvist is now my favorite option.
Thoughts on Craig Anderson at G and Crosby?

Anytime you can play Crosby do it. He is matchup proof. Anderson is ok for GPP’s. OTT gives up so many shots that his upside is there but that game should see plenty of goals.
