Goalies:
Jake Allen ($15,200) - St. Louis comes in on a 4-game winning streak and seem to be scoring at will over the last 2 weeks. Edmonton ranks 27th in the league in scoring this season and is an abysmal 2-10-7 on the road. Allen would be my top play regardless of price but the fact that he comes in at such a discount is just icing on the cake.
Usually I will list 2 goalies to write about but I feel like Allen is the only one I will be using this evening.
Others: (GPP only) Kari Lehtonen, Marc-Andre Fleury
Centers:
Eric Staal ($13,250) - Stall is on fire lately with 4 points his last 3 games and 6 goals in his last 7 contests. The price is certainly rising as a result of that but it is tough to ignore the hot hand in daily fantasy. The home matchup against Colorado is a great one as Colorado just can not seem to control the puck in the offensive zone. This allows the opposition to have plenty of scoring chances throughout the game and tonight should be no exception.
Joe Thornton ($10,700) - “Jumbo Joe” returned to action Saturday against the Rangers and skated with new line mates all game. This may just be what Thornton and Marleau need to get it going again and with the depressed price tag on both of them I am very interested in taking a shot with the veteran tonight.
Others: Derek Stepan, Kyle Turris
Left Wing:
Henrik Zetterberg ($13,300) - Detroit has the league’s 3rd-ranked power play and Buffalo has the 3rd-worst penalty kill. This bodes very well for the Red Wings power play units this evening. With Nuevirth expected to be in net for the Sabres tonight, the Red Wings get an even bigger boost in my rankings than they normally would.
Jamie Benn ($13,200) - His price tag has come down drastically from the $16,000 range and a home matchup against OTT with Robin Lehner in net is just too juicy to pass up. I like to always have some piece of the Benn/Seguin combo anytime Dallas is at home as they are matchup proof at this point.
Others: Zach Parise, Bobby Ryan
Right Wing:
David Perron ($9,150) - Skating with Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz on both even strength and the top power play unit is a great place to be for fantasy as the focus of the defense is always on Crosby and he loves to create scoring chances for his line mates. The Wild are in disarray right now and their top goaltender is hurt. Everything adds up to the Penguins scoring a lot of goals tonight and Perron is the cheapest way to get exposure to the top line and top power play unit.
Vladimir Tarasenko ($14,700) - You simply can’t afford to fade the Blues tonight with the way they are scoring and the great matchup. With EDM in town and the Blues having scored 25 goals in their last 4 games you must have exposure to them tonight. Tarasenko is the safest option in my mind because of the amount of shots he takes even when he doesn’t score.
Others: Mika Zibanejad, Jeff Skinner
Defense:
Niklas Kronwall ($8,950) - The price has come way down and the quarterback of the DET power play against the awful Buffalo penalty kill is in a great spot. I was expecting his price to be around $11,000 like the previous few weeks so this was a nice suprise. He has a great opportunity to pay off this price tag tonight.
Paul Martin ($5,000) - While he is not producing much this season the chances he gets to play with the top 6 in Pittsburgh and even getting power play time with the second unit keeps bringing me back. It does not take much to pay off this salary and if Pittsburgh scores as many as I think they will he is a no brainer.
Others: Alex Pietrangelo, Trevor Daley
