College Fantasy Football Picks 9-11-14
Get ready for another exciting week of college fantasy football!
College Fantasy Football Quarterbacks
Kenny Hill, Texas A&M, $13,350
Hill should probably be closer to the top of the salary ladder. Hill has been near flawless in his first two outings and things don’t get much harder as Rice is next on the docket. If you watched the Notre Dame/Rice tilt during week 1, you’re aware of how terrible Rice’s defense has played to this point in the season. Hill should have a third straight monster day.
Davis Webb, Texas Tech, $14,250
Cliff Kingsbury and the Red Raiders are continuing the trend of throwing the ball all over the field. Webb has thrown for 700 yards and seven touchdowns in his first two games. The excellent part of this matchup is it’s a high total with a low spread in Vegas. Which means Arkansas should score a bunch and keep Webb throwing from start to finish. Don’t worry about the Razorback’s defense either, they have been exposed and are currently ranked 89th in pass defense.
Wes Lunt, Illinois, $11,350
Lunt topped our QB plays last week and he turned in 456 yards and three touchdowns. This week he and the Illini travel to Washington to face a defense that allowed SEVEN touchdown passes to Eastern Washington last week. It seems as though Illinois has committed to the pass this season as Lunt has thrown the ball 88 times in the first two games of the season. In a game that Vegas projects as a shootout, Lunt should account for a good portion of the action.
Cyler Miles, Washington, $14,050
Miles missed a week due to suspension, but returned in a big way accounting for four touchdowns. He’s more of a threat to score on the ground, which is the type of quarterback I like to target due to safety. As mentioned above, the Illinois/Washington game projects to be a high scoring contest with both teams. Last week, Miles scored three rushing touchdowns, which isn’t out of the question this week.
Daxx Garman, Oklahoma State, $10,000
Garman will be replacing injured starter JW Walsh this week against UTSA. Last week, he entered the game at about the midway point and threw for 244 yards and 2 touchdowns. He shouldn’t have any trouble this week meeting the minimum QB salary on DraftDay if you need to clear cap space.
College Fantasy Football Running Backs
Tevin Coleman, Indiana, $16,150
Coleman is the type of runner that can take any carry to the house. He absolutely destroyed Indiana State in week one for 247 yards. Bowling Green has yet to be tested on the ground. Coleman is one of the highest priced options on DraftDay, but he’s well worth the price due to his high floor.
DJ Foster, Arizona State, $16,000
The Sun Devils use Foster on both the ground and through the air. In the first two weeks, Foster didn’t need many touches to produce monster fantasy numbers. This week against Colorado, Arizona State may have a more difficult time. This means Arizona State may have to feed Foster more often. Foster’s Sun Devil team projects to score 42 points this week, one of the highest vegas single-team totals for week three.
James Conner, Pitt, $14,850
It’s important to target workload when going after running backs. Conner carried the ball over 30 times last week, so there’s no issue with workload here. He’s averaging 34 fantasy points per game in his first two contests, which includes five touchdowns. The Florida International defense doesn’t have a chance at slowing him down. The blowout factor is somewhat worrisome, but I’d bet he has enough stats compiled by the time he’s taken out of the game.
Byron Marshall, Oregon, $11,700
Marshall continues to be used as a slot receiver instead of a running back on many downs. Marshall struggled last week against Michigan State. It seemed as though they gameplanned to take him away. Wyoming can gameplan all they want, they aren’t going to be able to start Marshall from racking up yards and scores this week. Surprisingly, Marshall has a price point that’s very close to average. He is definitely worth it this week.
College Fantasy Football Wide Receivers
Amari Cooper, Alabama, $14,850
Cooper can’t be slowed down. He leads the NCAA in receptions through two games at 25! It’s evident that both Bama QBs are very comfortable targeting him all day long. Until he puts up a mediocre game, I think he’s got to be in the majority of your lineups. Even in blowouts, Cooper is finishing with 12+ receptions. Plug him in because he’s about as safe as it gets at the wide receiver position.
Devin Funchess, Michigan, $12,900
Monitor Funchess’ status for the game Saturday against Miami (OH). Gardner is absolutely LOCKED IN on his massive tight end target turned wide receiver. Notre Dame kept Funchess out of the end zone last week, but he still went for 20 fantasy points after accumulating 34 the previous week. The Wolverines should be hungry for a bounce back win and Funchess will be the main target in this one.
Vince Mayle, Washington State, $12,450
Gabe Marks, the receiver thought to be the Cougars main man coming into the season, will use a redshirt year. Enter Vince Mayle. In two games to start the season he’s averaging 10 receptions, 100 yards, and a touchdown. The Cougars throw the ball early and often, usually neglecting the run along the way. Mayle has emerged as a dynamite option for Cougar quarterback Connor Halliday. It’s the perfect storm for Mayle to continue to produce at a high level for the entire season. Especially this week against Portland State.
Keevan Lucas, Tulsa, $6,500
This has got to be a goof on the part of DraftDay. Their salary creating algorithm completely botched the Lucas price for this week. He’s facing a Florida Atlantic team that doesn’t pose a threat defensively. He’s been dominant in his first two appearances. Yet, he’s priced as one of the lowest receivers in week three. He should be plugged into every single lineup you create on DraftDay this week. It’s an incredible way to create cap space without really punting.
Other Values: Jaelen Strong, Arizona State, $10,900
College Fantasy Football Tight Ends
Jesse James, Penn State, $10,250
James caught two touchdown passes last week, while going 7 for 60 yards the week before. His price is pretty steep, but he’s one of the only tight ends on the board that I’m confident in to produce. Hackenberg and the PSU passing attack are in full force. They’ve thrown the ball over 80 times in two games. That number should continue since Rutgers can score on the Nittany Lions, keeping Hack throwing a bunch for the entire game.
AJ Derby, Arkansas, $8,200
Derby is a converted quarterback, but looked good last week catching four passes and scoring a touchdown for the Razorbacks. This week Arkansas will have to throw a ton to keep up with the Texas Tech in what should be an electric, high-scoring game.
Other Values: Clay Burton, Florida, $7,250, Jaelen Strong, Arizona State, $10,900
